Sir Richard Owen : Lancaster Born (20 July 1804) ungarianogist Sir Richard Owen, invented the word ‘dinosaur’ he said they were “terrible lizards”, a diverse family of awesome creatures in need of their own taxonomic group – which he named Dinosauria. He went on to found the Natural History Museum which opened in 1881.
