The Trail Business Mascots

It’s the last week of the yarny potter trail – and time for this slightly overdue post πŸ˜‰

Each of the businesses we feature on the trail have a mascot, matching their chosen house. These were almost entirely made from supplies sourced locally, and almost all some kind of woolly πŸ˜‰

Yarnypotter and the #yarnbombbonus week 3

It’s week 3 of the #yarnypotter trail, and something extra has been added πŸ˜‰

This fellow is close to the castle (he was almost inside the castle….but I decided he might not want to be in gaol again…..

There used to be another block of houses right outside the castle gateway, running along by where you’ll find him. They were demolished in the first half of the 1900s, and you wouldn’t even know they’d ever been there!

You should also take a peek in the window at the Cottage Museum, where an extra little feature has taken up residence! Take a pic and let us know what you think πŸ˜‰

Yarnypotter – The final challenge! – Pets

With just over a week left before the yarnypotter trail goes live – it’s time for the last challenge of this series – Hogwarts Pets.

All Hogwarts students were allowed to take a pet, an owl OR a cat OR a toad OR a rat, according to the invitation letters.

So this ones easy – pick your pet! As you may have seen on our facebook, some kids via the creation station have already gotten in on this one (and inspired it!)

yarnypotter – challenge eight- sports!

It’s time for our penultimate Yarnypotter challenge – this week’s theme is sport!

With the World Cup and Tennis taking up so much of the time on TV at the moment, we thought Wizarding sports would be the ideal theme for this week’s challenge.

Make your own golden snitch for a game of quidditch, or a nimbus, you might even feel like drifting towards the possiblities offered by the Triwizard Tournment!

yarnypotter – Challenge Seven! – Beasts

This week it’s time for a revisit to something we put to you earlier in the challenges – Fantastic Beasts.

Partly this is because it’s one that has the broadest set of options for you all to play with – and partly because it ties into some of the stuff we’re working on for the trail!

Check out the pinterest board for some inspiration if nothing comes to mind – at some point, I will be doing a dragon, but it’s going to take me a little longer than a week πŸ˜‰

yarnypotter – Challenge Six – House Mascots!

So we’re keeping it relatively simple again, following on from last week’s House Elf challenge – this week’s challenge is: Hogwarts House Mascots!

Are you a Hufflepuff, a Gryffindor, a Slytherin, or maybe like many in Lancaster, you’re a Ravenclaw?

With the work for our upcoming trail ramping up, we thought we’d go with a challenge that works towards that. Make a badger, a lion, a snake or even an eagle (or raven as per the films ;)) and share your work with us!

Don’t forget we’re on instagram nowΒ  ( https://www.instagram.com/yarncaster/ ) (and we’ll be bringing our twitter @yarn_caster back to life as well!)

The next challenge will go live on the 29th June – but there’s nothing to stop you revisiting old challenges at any time!

yarnypotter – Challenge Five – Free the House Elves!

From this week onwards, we’re going to be doing five challenges running up to the 20th July – you’ll have Fri-Thurs for each challenge, which we’re aiming to keep quite simple πŸ˜‰

This week the challenge theme is: Free the House Elves!

Make a sock (yes, just one, you don’t have to make a pair πŸ˜‰ ), make a House Elf, or even make a house elf from a sock…… Then share a picture of your completed make here, on facebook or our shiny new instagram account ( https://www.instagram.com/yarncaster/ )

The next challenge will be posted on the 22nd June πŸ™‚
